Post-it Challenge: Draw the Monster Under your Bed

August 25th, 2010 — 8:27am

This is the monster that didn’t live under the bed, but behind the couch in my house on Mayfair, back in Toledo. It’s eyes glowed yellow and that was all I ever saw of it.

I will shame your mother.

May 26th, 2010 — 8:57am

Are you one shady motherfucker? Then you probably stole my moped. You had better give it back. Like, as in, I see you riding my moped, I’m going to ram into you with my car and knock you off it. Then take it back. That’s what you get for stealing one of the most recognizable mopeds in the Milwaukee area, bitch.

Also, are you pretend shady? Like, “you’re a MIAD student and hang out in Riverwest so people think I’m a shady motherfucker, but really, my mom bought my leather jacket” kind of shady? Then you are my eyes in the field, friends. You find my bike and I will bake you the most decadent pie you have ever tasted in your whole damn life. Your mom will cry from shame. Her shame.

Side note: “Motherfucker” is spelt correctly, according to firefox.

Progress, for the sake of progress..

May 11th, 2010 — 9:30am

Yea, the title is way heavier than what this post is about.

So, we’ve actually gotten a lot farther than this since then. I’ll have to take some photos tonight, but here’s a sneak peek:

Wonderful, beautiful trim, made by my future husband.

Also? trips next week. Should be fun. I always like the feeling of being on the move, even if it is for bittersweet reasons.

Moving makes me cranky at the internet.

April 23rd, 2010 — 8:48am

Schiller Street

So, we got a lot more moved in this weekend then we eventually thought we were. Now that I’m in the house, there are so many things I want to go crazy with. Mark and I will have to put quite an investment into it, but, so it goes. Number one thing is HARD. WOOD. FLOORS. For real. We’ve peeled back every floor to see that wonderful, 70s orange staring right back at us. Paint, rip off the trim, then get that carpet outta here!

Also, we are getting appliances this weekend. Mark and I went to the outlet and picked up the four cheapest appliances that store had to offer! I was really looking forward to scrounging up some excellent Craigslist finds, but unfortunately it wasn’t like we were replacing existing appliances. Time was of the essence. I haven’t worn a real bra in about a week.

Speaking of Craigslist, what is with people not knowing how to use the internet? I mean, maybe 4 years ago, I would have let this slide. But seriously? It is so easy, there is no excuse anymore. For example:

Post your photographs along with your ad on Craigslist. The only reason you didn’t, is because you are lazy. Also? The photograph where your fridge takes up the bottom fourth and the rest of the photo is of your messy garage? Fail. Use your brain, people.

Second, people on Facebook? This is a PUBLIC FORUM. If you wouldn’t say that shit out loud at a party, then it most certainly shouldn’t be said where every single one of your friends and family members will see it. Especially to my younger students who don’t realize that I’m on Facebook too, and that I see everything you say. Do you talk to your mother with that mouth? Or smoke that joint in front of her?

We got to the edge of the world, but nothing was there. We sat anyway.

I need to make a companion for this piece for the original buyer.

Any ideas?

Reason #3 to buy a house.

April 14th, 2010 — 3:25pm

Words can’t even describe how much I’m pining for this dress right now. Unfortunately they are sold out. Also unfortunate: in order to shop there, you need to be size -5.

So this is reason #424 to buy a house (actually, if you asked me really what number it was, and I wasn’t in front of Mark, it’d be, like, reason #3) is that I will finally have a CRAFT ROOM. Dedicated to putterin’ around, sewing, painting, whatever I feel like! We just did the final walkthru today, and I got to see my craft room in all its painted-boy-blue glory. HUGE closet. I mean, seriously bigger than anything else in the house. And that was the BOYS room, which confuses me.

So, if anyone could please direct me to some awesome fabric stores in which I can purchase fabric to sew this dress, please let me know. ALSO, the only part that I think I would really have trouble with is finding a fabric that is the right consistency and cuteness for the top. If you read on the website, it is a very clingy, but semi-stretchy fabric? I think it is a lot thicker than regular jersey, as that is how it is held up. Like a lycra or something? Seriously, someone clue me in.

Completely unrelated topic: We went to a Thesis Dissertation at MSOE yesterday (congrats, Jon!) and it was FASCINATING! Especially since I imagine that is what a real college is like (not saying that MIAD isn’t a real college………..well, yea I kind of am)* and just the idea of EDUCATION in general….oh it gives me joy. The wealth of knowledge in the world, and the ability to spread that knowledge… Seriously, it breaks my heart when really established people with a wide audience base talk about a “war on education” and then realizing that millions of people watch and agree. Buh.

*But I need to clarify that I am immensely glad MIAD wasn’t a normal college, and am actually pretty happy with the education I received. Had I gone to a university, I would have dropped out from Chatch-overload.
